Teeth Whitening

Most people want to have a bright, white smile they can feel confident showing off. Unfortunately, few people are born with such a brilliant grin. Over time, teeth get stained from the things you eat, the liquids you drink, and just daily wear and tear. Fortunately, Dr. Calise can rescue your drab smile with professional teeth whitening treatments. You can have a whiter, brighter, more attractive smile after just one visit. Interested? Leading Causes of Dental Stains

Most teeth naturally have a yellow or grayish tint, because of the dentin beneath the enamel. But over time, your teeth become even more discolored. Here are the leading reasons why:

  • Age
  • Wear
  • Tobacco use
  • Demineralization
  • Highly pigmented foods
  • Dark beverages
  • Lack of oral hygiene

Procedure for Teeth Whitening

After your consultation with Dr. Calise, he will set you up in the dental chair to prepare for whitening. First, he protects your soft tissues with a special guard. Then he will apply the bleaching agent to your teeth, usually in gel form. Once in place, the dentist will use a specialized light to quicken the whitening process. The solution sits for 15 minutes, and then the dentist will check your progress. Then he wipes off the bleaching solution, reapplies, and lets it rest for 15 more minutes. He will repeat the process three or four times until you reach desired whiteness. Then, you are done!

Advantages of Teeth Whitening from Avalon Dental Clinic

With so many options available over the counter, many patients want to try teeth whitening on their own. What they don’t realize is the time and energy these types of whitening treatments take. Instead of going through the hassle, give professional teeth whitening the consideration it deserves. Instead of making compromises, you get these benefits:

  1. Faster results. All it takes is just one 45-minute appointment and your smile could be up to 10 shades lighter.
  2. Safe procedure. Because the dentist is monitoring your treatment, you do not have to worry about damaging the enamel. Treatment is effective and safe.
  3. Color monitoring. With our in-office whitening, you do not risk over bleaching. You might not think it to be possible, but teeth that are too white often look unnatural.
  4. Longer lasting results. Dr. Calise can also give you a home whitening kit for touch ups. You can use it every few months to keep your smile brighter, longer.

Poor Candidates for Teeth Whitening

Almost anyone makes a good candidate for this simple cosmetic procedure. However, there are some limitations. For example, whitening will not work on stains caused by certain antibiotics, dental trauma, or fluorosis. Also, patients with dental decay, gum disease, or hypersensitivity are not good candidates until they resolve these underlying problems. Lastly, dentists do not recommend professional teeth whitening for patients under the age of 16. Their teeth might not be fully in place, and as they finish coming in you might notice a line of discoloration along the gums.
